LWVC Action Alert – success!

Take Action to Protect Immigrant Families

Over 10 million immigrants live, work, and pay taxes in California. They are our family, our friends, and our coworkers. Recently federal agents have taken actions to detain and deport our law-abiding neighbors, tearing families apart. Undocumented residents are afraid to use community resources or cooperate with law enforcement efforts in their neighborhoods for fear of deportation.

California lawmakers approved the landmark ‘sanctuary state’ bill on Sept. 16 to expand protections for immigrants. SB-54 legislation by Sen. Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) will limit state and local law enforcement communication with federal immigration authorities, and prevent officers from questioning and holding people on immigration violations. This bill will make sure our schools, health facilities, and courthouses are safe and accessible to all Californians and prevent state and local law enforcement from acting as federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to detain and deport immigrants.

Take Action

Federal Election Commissioner Ellen L. Weintraub has sent a letter, dated March 22, to President Trump insisting the president produce evidence to back up his outlandish claims that millions voted illegally in the 2016 election. The League is joining with allied organizations and calling for the President to produce evidence to support his unlawful voting claims – or put these claims to rest. LWV National is asking for your signature as co-signer of Commissioner Weintraub’s letter, please sign up here.

Update: On May 11, Trump ordered a voter fraud investigation, thrusting back into the spotlight an issue that few other Republican leaders want to tackle.

Update: On June 29, Trump election panel asks all 50 states for voter roll data. 44 states are refusing to comply.    Voter privacy rights should and must be protected, inasmuch as voter fraud is nil.

Update: On July 19 Trump warned of the dangers of voter fraud as he kicked off the first meeting of his voter fraud commission. It includes Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State.

Update Sept.12: President Trump’s sham Commission is not interested in facts, but rather, false accusations in order to implement dangerous election policy. The agenda of this Commission is part of a wider effort to suppress the vote, keep certain politicians in power and undermine our elections by spreading falsehoods about our election system. Join us and encourage the Commission to stand up for voters and our democracy. The Commission is no longer accepting comments via email; to submit your comment please visit Regulations.gov
